Health Insurance

Your wellbeing matters. Comprehensive health insurance is essential for participation in the OSS programme.

Health insurance is an essential part of preparing for your Oxbridge Summer Scholars experience. While our OSS team is fully committed to supporting students throughout the programme, we are not able to provide medical services, pay for medical or travel costs, or act as a substitute for formal insurance coverage. In the event of illness, injury, or emergency, students must rely on their own insurance arrangements. It’s important you secure the right insurance before you travel so you can focus on learning, exploring, and enjoying your time abroad – with confidence that you’re protected if the unexpected happens.

Mandatory Medical Insurance

All students must have valid medical insurance covering their entire stay in the UK. This ensures you are protected for any health-related issues, from minor illness to emergency hospital treatment.

Insurance must cover:

- Emergency treatment and hospital care

- Doctor consultations and medication

- Medical repatriation if required

EU/EEA students may use a valid EHIC or GHIC card to access state-provided healthcare. These cards do not replace full medical insurance.

Students must bring proof of coverage with them.

Travel Insurance: Strongly Recommended

Travel insurance covers risks beyond medical treatment, making it highly recommended for all students.

It typically protects against:
- Lost, stolen, or damaged belongings
- Flight delays or cancellations
- Trip interruption costs
- Emergency evacuation or repatriation
- Personal liability
Even if you have medical insurance or an EHIC/GHIC card, travel insurance provides broader protection and peace of mind.

Important Notes block

OSS does not provide insurance and cannot cover medical or travel costs.

- EHIC/GHIC cards are limited in coverage and not sufficient on their own.

- Insurance must be issued in your country of legal residence and valid for the full programme.

- Check your policy carefully for exclusions, pre-existing conditions, and coverage limits.
